The NYT's WordleBot Tool is reporting an average of 4 overall for this one, which appears to be something of a pattern. Reading this in a time zone where it's still Saturday? The Wordle answer for game #370 was BEADY. Let me know how you did in the comments or via email (opens in new tab) - and if you have already got in touch then apologies for the delay in replying, you will get a response soon (honest)! Yesterday's Wordle answer #371, Saturday, June 25 And though I didn't beat WordleBot today, I'm definitely pleased to escape with my streak intact. That gave me my third 3/6 in four games, having previously only scored one in 14 before that. But as it happens, I had successfully narrowed it down to just one more option, which was indeed RUSTY. Maybe I got lucky here, because WordleBot told me afterwards that if the answer had been different - FROST or CRUST, for instance - I would still have left myself with either a 50/50 or 1/3 guess for the third go. I nearly played TRUST - because T at the start was also common - but decided to eliminate another consonant instead, and played WURST. Plus, W started three answers, WURST, WORST and WRIST, whereas the like of F, C, B and G were only in one or two each. And U featured in eight of them, compared to five that had an O and only three that had an I. A further two had the S in position #4 (TORSO and TRUSS). I could see from the list of possible answers I'd compiled that -ST was a very common ending, with 11 of my 15 ending that way. And though I didn't know that at the time, it was always less likely than most of the other choices. In one sense, my choice of WURST as my second guess was a bad one - given that it wasn't an actual answer. The one I missed was ROOST, and we both found the other 12: FROST, TRYST, CRUST, TRUST, BURST, FIRST, TORSO, TORUS, TRUSS, WORST, WRIST and RUSTY. WordleBot says I had 13 possible answers to choose from for my second guess, but I found 15 and missed one of its options so three of mine, ROUST, WURST and GRIST, weren't actual answers (though they were possible guesses.) Still, at least the word itself isn't obscure according to Word and Phrase Info (opens in new tab), RUSTY is the 9,828th most frequently used English word, so a lot more common than BEADY.Īs always, I started with STARE and this gave me three yellows today: S, T and R. What that all adds up to is a game where you may well have ended up playing chase-the-yellow-letters-around-the-board. Finally, U is 11th most common overall, but 7th most likely to be in position #2. Similarly, R is usually found in #2 or #5 and is less likely to start an answer than it is to appear anywhere else in a word.
In position #3, as it is here, it's only in 80 answers. However, S is a slightly odd one, in that it mostly appears at the start of an answer, where it's the single most common letter.
R, T and S are all very common overall, meanwhile, ranking 3rd, 5th and 8th respectively. It was also the final letter in yesterday's game, and occurs in 15% of all Wordles. Take Y: as I show in my analysis of every Wordle answer, it's the 12th most common letter overall among Wordle answers, but the second most common ending letter. And though the NYT's WordleBot Tool is reporting an average of 3.5 overall for this one - which is pretty low - I am seeing some lost streaks on Twitter.Įven if you didn't get stuck in the -USTY path, there were still quite a few options to choose from here, because all five of these letters are common either overall or in their specific position in the word. That's because RUSTY might have locked you into a too-many-options trap that left you guessing between DUSTY, FUSTY, MUSTY, GUSTY and LUSTY without ever being able to get to the answer. This should be a straightforward answer to find for some people, but a lot will depend on your choice of the best Wordle start words - and whether you play on hard mode. So, what is today's Wordle answer for game #372?
